Partitioning your hard drives has the following advantages:
1. Separation of the operating system and program files from user files. This allows image backups to be made of only the operating system and installed software. Also in the event of operating failure, you can fix or reinstall the operating system without risking all your files.
2. Protecting or isolating files, to make it easier to recover a corrupted file system. If one partition is corrupted, other file systems may not be affected.
Fragmentations will be relatively close instead of scattering around the whole disk. This improved the hard disk drive read/write speed and in turn overall performance.
3. Having cache and log files separate from other files. These can change size dynamically and rapidly, potentially making a file system full.
4. Smaller partitions mean smaller Master File Tables. Computers would be more efficient reading smaller MFTs rather than a larger one.

There are times when you have to do something to optimize your partition arrangement.
